Shining a light on single vineyard wine with Yeenunga

Sitting high above the township of McLaren Vale and overlooking St Vincent’s Gulf and the Onkaparinga Gorge, Hardys’ Yeenunga vineyard consistently produces some of our highest quality Shiraz, including for the Eileen Hardy.

The vines, planted in 1972, have so consistently produced Shiraz that literally oozes quality, personality and such true expression of its site, that we decided we just had to make a standalone wine, hence the inaugural release of the Yeenunga Shiraz.

Hardys Tintara winemaker Paul Carpenter is the man behind this wine, and he is proud to release such a great example of McLaren Vale Shiraz at its best: “The Yeenunga vineyard has to be one of the best placed vineyards in the Vale, with sweeping views across the entire region and out to the ocean. Ever since I have been a winemaker at Tintara, I have always had a soft spot for the fruit off this vineyard – it’s quality you can’t ignore, and the wines it produces have such long lives.”

A very pure and perfumed example of McLaren Vale Shiraz, with dark berry fruits, plum and black olive aromas. The palate is brooding with dark chocolate, mocha and fine tannins framed through a long, ethereal finish.

The wine also featured in the 2018 edition of the James Halliday guide where it was given another great review: “From a vineyard high above the Onkaparinga Gorge, it is a rich, full-bodied shiraz full of black fruits, dark chocolate and firm tannins. Its quality, balance and length are plain to see, but it’s not open for business yet. An outstanding candidate for the cellar. Rating 95 To 2040 $80”
