In 1876, our pioneering founder, Thomas Hardy purchased our Tintara winery in McLaren Vale, in order to expand his already successful winemaking business. His vision and passion for winemaking meant that the Tintara name was soon synonymous with outstanding Australian winemaking, as was the region of McLaren Vale. Today our Tintara wines remain a testament to Thomas' quality winemaking, combining age-old methods with new-age techniques.
McLaren Vale has a Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. With a dry warm summer, the area has dry weather from December through to March or April, giving an easy change between summer and winter. It is gentle with long warm days and short cool nights. The area’s thin soils, limited water and warm summers harness the vines natural vigour and produce intense flavoured fruit, and wine with deep colour that can last decades in the bottle. McLaren Vale wines are distinguished by their ripeness, elegance, structure, power and complexity.
The Hardys Tintara T Series celebrates the diversity of alternative varietals that have continued to evolve and develop in the McLaren Vale region. Utilising classic Mediterranean varietals that are well suited to the region the Hardys Tintara winemakers are continually experimenting to get the very best out of these new styles that are perfect for the Australian lifestyle and cuisine.
Dedicated to the region, Tintara’s winemakers source grapes from a variety of sub-regions of McLaren Vale. Having exposure to different vineyard parcels on the blending bench, the unique differences offer a wonderful opportunity to showcase the characteristics of old vine vineyards which highlight the influence that soil type, aspect and elevation have on McLaren Vale Shiraz. Sourced from distinguished sites from McLaren Vale, the Sub-Regionals highlight the best sub-regions depending on the quality of the vintage. The Tintara philosophy maintains that the true art of the winemaker is in showcasing the true characters of the finest quality fruit.
The McLaren Vale region is famous for being one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world. It is from these ancient soils that Hardys source the grapes that are then used to produce our unique wines. Displaying complexity concentration and character, the new Hardys Tintara Geology range draws on these soils to craft a wine befitting such a unique region.
